Our Methodology: A Map, Not a Judgment: Most online theology quizzes force you into rigid, binary boxes—like a simple "Calvinist vs. Arminian" choice. But real biblical convictions are far more nuanced than a forced label. We mapped theology across nine independent spectrum sliders, decoupling complex topics like salvation into four distinct axes alongside scripture, spiritual gifts, governance, eschatology, and cultural posture. The system plots your unique convictions in a 9-dimensional space and objectively calculates your mathematical distance to historic and modern teachers using vector math. No forced categories. What the math can't do is decide where a teacher belongs on each axis in the first place — that's a judgment call, made by one person doing their best, and open to being wrong. The result is a map, not a verdict: where you land, who sits near you, and which perspectives are worth exploring.
My Personal Journey: Why I Built This Map
I want to share a bit about why this tool exists. It wasn't born out of a desire to build a theological calculator; it was born out of my own spiritual friction. Years ago, my faith was anchored in the New Covenant church - long before it evolved into the current movement it is today. Back then, everything felt settled. I felt completely secure in what I considered to be "my orthodox" beliefs. But life has a way of shifting the ground beneath you. After a long absence from the church, the "prodigal son" returned. Only this time, something was completely different. As I sat there listening to what was being preached, I was confronted with a deep, jarring inner divergence. It was a profound sense of angst. I kept feeling this internal friction, wondering, "Why does this grate on me? Did the church change, or did I?". To borrow a line from Alice in Wonderland: "I knew who I was this morning, but I've changed a few times since then." I realized I was not the same person I was before.
I couldn't just ignore the friction, so I decided to go down the rabbit hole. I embarked on a deep dive to discover exactly what I actually believe today and, more importantly, why I believe it. I stripped away the labels and the tribalism, and I started mapping out the actual mechanics of my faith.
That personal deep dive is what eventually led me to create this unbiased theology mapping tool. I realized that so much of our theological angst comes from simply not knowing where we stand on the map.
I can honestly tell you that finding my coordinates changed everything for me. It helped me understand exactly why I was feeling so much angst regarding the doctrines I was hearing, and it completely neutralized the frustration.
My hope is that this tool does the same for you.
When you can clearly define your beliefs across these nine specific axes, you stop feeling threatened by different viewpoints. You can sit in a pew, disagree with a minor point the pastor is making, and simply smile because you finally have the vocabulary to understand why you differ. This isn't about proving anyone wrong; it's about giving you the clarity to know exactly who you are.
